Холуй

Первоначально слободские умельцы (также, как их соседи в Палехе и Мстёре) занимались иконописью, в основном для Троице-Сергиевой лавры, а также изготовляя и недорогие иконы для окрестных жителей.

 

Искусству мастеров Холуя присущи, с одной стороны, подчеркнутая декоративность, с другой — любовь к реальному пейзажу с деревьями, кустами, травами и цветами. В первом случае художники проявляют богатство фантазии, создавая произведения на исторические и сказочные сюжеты, во втором — отражают впечатления окружающего мира. Среди таких изделий особенно интересны миниатюры на темы из жизни родного села, виды древнерусских городов — Владимира, Суздаля, Ярославля.

Современные художники-миниатюристы помнят слова, сказанные несколько десятков лет назад знаменитым палехским живописцем, заслуженным деятелем искусств РСФСР И. И. Голиковым: «Художник должен своей кистью показать пролетариату красоту, дать ему отдых, полное наслаждение в жизни, как поет певец или играет музыкант». Они знают, с какой виртуозностью расписывал Голиков и большие ларцы, и крохотные бисерницы, на которых миниатюру можно рассматривать лишь в лупу. Классикой стали работы Голикова «Красный пахарь», его «битвы», «охоты», «тройки» и иллюстрации к «Слову о полку Игореве». Многим из работ, которые выходят сегодня из-под пера современных миниатюристов, тоже суждена долгая жизнь.
